Meteor Tips

On my journey to learning Meteor, I am learning a bunch of gotchas on the way. I figured I'd document them here in hopes that others will augment and correct what I have written. Ill add to this as I learn more:.

  • Large Collections: It is critical to make sure you only publish what you need. If you're browser is hanging when your page is loaded, it is because Meteor is sending tons and tons of data to your browser. If you have GBs in your MongoDB then guess what, it is sending GBs. The best and recommend approach is to publish only the data you want on the server side, then subscribe to only the data you want on the client side. In this way you are sending only what you want and dramatically improving your load rate.
